How you can help us

How you can help us

To help us achieve our goals and aspirations we welcome the support of whanau and friends in whatever way you can help.

There are many tasks and projects that we want to carry out to develop the Marae, our people and our community.   We rely heavily on volunteers to run our hui and administration and are especially grateful to our kaimahi for their persistent hard work and dedication over many years. However the Marae’s remote location and our small local community means our physical and financial resources are often strained.

Our main sources of funding are raffles and events for day-to-day needs and grant funding for some maintenance projects and for large capital projects.

Government and charitable grants available to non-profit organisations have decreased in recent years.  At the same time there are more community groups and with an increasing need for their services.  This means more competition for a smaller pool of grant funds.

We have listed some ways you can get involved:

Attend our fund-raising events

Come along and connect with whānau and friends; have fun, catch up on news and help the Marae at the same time. The more people, the more successful the event will be!

Donate materials or equipment for projects

If you know of a company or organisation that have good quality materials or equipment they no longer need, then let us know via our contact form.

Pitch in at a Working-Bee

We regularly have Working-Bees to help maintain or refresh our facilities. Email us your contact details or connect with us on Facebook.

For students, extra-curricular activities such as supporting community groups including your Marae are good to have on your CV.

Donate money to our projects

If you are able to donate money to our current projects, head over to our Give a Little page.  We are grateful for all support – large or small.

Join a committee or working group

We are always looking out for volunteers with experience or special skills to help us on committees and working groups.

If you are a school leaver or recent graduate then consider the Marae for work experience. We have a lot of projects that can make your CV shine!
