Terms and conditions
You are responsible for cleaning and maintaining the Marae premises and all equipment used during your stay. The persons hiring the Marae are responsible for ensuring all the rubbish is taken away and all washing is clean, dry and put away. The Marae MUST be left clean and tidy before you leave. By hiring the premises, you agree to adhere to this.
Alcohol and drugs
Alcohol is only allowed if it has been approved by the Marae trustees.
Drugs are NOT permitted on the marae premises.
Catering
Catering and food is arranged at the hirees cost. If you need help, the Marae can offer catering suggestions including the option of adequate catering companies local to the area.
Equipment
Otamatea Marae maintains an inventory of its stock and equipment. Missing or broken items will be charged to the hirer.
Healthy and safety
If you identify any hazards, please write it in the Hazards Register.
- First aid kits can be found in the kitchen along with the Hazards Register.
- Fire extinguishers are located in the wharenui and wharekai.
- An emergency contact list can be found on the kitchen wall by the telephone.
- The emergency evacuation point is the waharoa.
Linen and bedding
We provide mattresses, pillows and linen. You need to provide your own blankets or other bedding items.
Please ensure you have washed, dried and put away all washing prior to leaving the Marae. A washing machine and Dryer is supplied for MARAE LAUNDRY ONLY. Please do not use it for personal washing. Please DO NOT take Marae laundry offsite.
When replacing mattresses please follow the notice in the wharenui.
Parking
There is ample parking in front of the Marae or in the adjacent car park. Please do not park in the driveway to the right of the wharaekai as this is reserved for workers and emergency services. Parking on the Marae ātea is strictly prohibited.
Rubbish and recycling
You must use the bins provided and remove all waste when you vacate the Marae premises.
Each Marae hirer is responsible for:
- Ensuring the wharekai bins are lined prior to waste being deposited.
- Supplying their own bin liners.
- The removal and disposal of all waste materials prior to vacating the Marae grounds.
Local recycling agents are:
Hakaru Transfer Station: Kaiwaka-Mangawhai Road, Hakaru (approximately 7km from Mangawhai).
Opening hours: Monday to Sunday 10am – 4pm (telephone 09 431 2629). A location map and current charges can be found on the Kaipara District Council website.
Uretiti Transfer Station: Tip Road, Waipu.
Opening hours: Monday to Sunday 8am – 1pm (closes later in summer months). Information about prices can be found on the Whangarei District Council website or you can call the 24/7 hour customer service number on 09 430 4200.
Smoking
Smoking is only permitted in the car park or around the back of the buildings out of sight of manuhiri. You must use the ash cans provided.
Supervision of children
Otamatea Marae is located by the water which can be hazardous to children. When hiring Otamatea Marae facilities, you accept full responsibility for ensuring their safety at all times.
